With nearly half of their 280 guests travelling from out of town, Helen and Johnny realized that Four Seasons Hotel Sydney in their home city was the perfect place to spend a week. They even joined the group and checked in days before the wedding. To welcome out-of-towners, “every room that our 100 guests stayed in had Sydney Harbour views. This was the unique part of the wedding and locale,” Helen says.
High Glamour . . . A Grand Ball . . . Culinary Delights
The Scene: “We wanted a black-tie, elegant, timeless affair,” Helen says of the vintage-inspired details like antique chandeliers, lush florals, and gold, burgundy and pewter tones. “Everything looked absolutely amazing.”
Magical Moment: Helen will never forget the moment she and Johnny first walked into the ballroom at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney: “It was like walking into a glamorous ball from the 1950s.”
The Bride & Groom: The couple reserved separate suites on the day of the wedding to get ready with their respective members of the bridal parties. “I had platters of food and bottles of champagne delivered,” Helen recalls, “and we spent the whole day laughing with our friends and family.”
The Bride Wore: Helen wore a custom gown by Steven Khalil Haute Couture. The nude and pewter dress had intricate lace appliqués. She accessorized her wedding-day look with nude open-toe pumps by Jimmy Choo and Jill Sander earrings.
A Personal Touch: “We both have a love of good food,” Helen says, so the Hotel chefs worked with the couple to prepare seafood stations, complete with a sashimi carving area, oyster shots and Johnny’s father’s famous bisque. (His family’s business provided the seafood.) “The chefs were exceptional,” Helen says.
Helen’s vision for her wedding was a classic ball with white, gold and pewter details, and she worked with her wedding planner, Philip Carr, and the Hotel’s event team, to make it happen. The ballroom at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney was brought to life with beautiful floral arrangements and stunning antique chandeliers. Looking back, Helen says, “It was like a magical garden.”
