Stefanie dreamt of an unforgettable outdoor wedding in her Indonesia home, and her search for an extraordinary wedding venue led her to Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta. “It was perfect, and with a little imagination I knew it would turn into a magical wedding reception—and magical it was,” she says. After an elegant morning ceremony indoors, the celebration continued that evening with a romantic poolside party for 1,212 guests. “We wish it never ended,” says the bride of the fantasy evening.
The Scene: Stefanie envisioned a party of enchanted fairies deep within the forest, much like Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. To set the charmed mood, a white tent awash in pink and purple flowers enveloped everyone in nature—floral chandeliers, floating blossoms in the pool, beautiful trees and even a magnificent wall of fresh flowers. Soft lighting in pink, purple and yellow made the mood even more ethereal.
Magic Moment: A surprise serenade by the groom proved to be especially memorable. “At the reception, I was so busy mingling with my friends that I didn’t realize that Alvin took over the stage,” Stefanie explains. “He suddenly started singing ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay and playing the keyboard, Chris Martin–style.” He then took off his jacket and popped a balloon that showered flower petals. Alvin and his groomsmen collected the flowers, which the groom tied into a bouquet to present to his new wife. “They were the loveliest flowers he ever gave me,” Stefanie recalls.
The Bride and Groom: Stefanie and Alvin first met at a friend’s party in Melbourne, Australia, but didn’t really connect until later on at that same friend’s New Year’s Eve party in Jakarta. They dated four and a half years before Alvin proposed on top of a mountain in Bandung, a town outside of Jakarta.
The Bride Wore: Stefanie donned two dresses—a morning and an evening gown—by her friend Steven Huang (who also served as the wedding’s “maid of honour”). “Grace Kelly inspired my morning gown,” she says of the long-sleeved lace turtleneck top adorned with crystals and the soft peach skirt embellished with flowers that she wore for the 10:30 am ceremony. For the evening reception, she changed into an antique French lace mermaid gown, accessorized with glittery ankle-strap Miu Miu heels perfect for dancing by the pool.
A Personal Touch: A five-tier wedding cake with purple and pink spun-sugar hydrangeas, topped with a bird’s nest, sweetened the enchanted evening. For a humorous and fanciful touch, the couple cut the cake with Jedi lightsabres.
The Honeymoon: After the celebration, Stefanie and Alvin jetted off to a honeymoon at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa. Staying in a beach-style bungalow, the newlyweds snorkelled, jet skied, and dined on fresh lobster and white snapper. Remembering the sparkling ocean, Stefanie says, “When we arrived at Kuda Huraa, I knew that I didn’t ever want to leave.”
