Love was in the air—and fast. On their first trip together, Karan and Shikha’s relationship blossomed, and Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok made a major impression, too. The couple returned four months later for their wedding, along with 200 guests.

Indian Tradition . . . Handmade Dresses . . . Lavish Details

The Scene: Following tradition, Karan and Shikha’s multi-day affair spanned numerous meals and ceremonies, all leading up to their lavish Indian wedding on the third day. From pink, yellow and white to red and gleaming gold, each party had its own colour combination and coordinating flowers.

That Magical Moment: For his Baraat (or bridegroom’s) ceremony, the groom made his entrance through the hotel lobby with a parade of singers, dancers and drummers behind him. Then it was up the staircase and into the grand ballroom for the finale, a fire ceremony in which the bride and groom walked around a flame seven times.

The Bride Wore: A series of handmade dresses designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, each one in traditional Indian style.

The Groom: With the help of his sister, Karan oversaw the wedding plans and arrived a week early to finalize the details. “I was very clear with my vision,” the groom explains. Since his stay happened over the Songkran festival (Thai New Year), he also participated in several local ceremonies, culminating in his entire family jumping into the pool fully clothed, a typical New Year’s tradition!

A Personal Touch: When deciding on a wedding date, the bride and groom wanted auspicious timing according to the Indian calendar, with a lucky alignment between the stars, sun and moon. April 15 turned out be New Year’s Day in Thailand, which convinced the couple their nuptials’ timing was meant to be.

From a whirlwind courtship to their lavish wedding weekend, this couple brought the best of Mumbai to their big day in Bangkok.
