Kathy and Rob knew one thing about their wedding: The majority of their 96 guests were going to have to travel, since their far-flung family and friends live in Australia, Japan, England, Germany, Switzerland, the U.S., Brazil, Canada and South Africa. The couple, based in Hong Kong, sought a destination wedding with incredible food and rich history. They decided to revisit one of their favourite cities, Florence, Italy, and chose Four Seasons Hotel Firenze for their wedding venue. “We fell in love with the property as soon as we stepped in the Hotel; its history made our wedding so unique and perfect,” says Kathy. “I literally had tears in my eyes when Elisa, the catering manager, was showing us the ceremony and reception areas. We knew this was it!”
Old World Romance . . . Renaissance Frescoes . . . All-white Décor
The Scene: Two Old World ballrooms set the stage for the ceremony and reception. “We took a chic, classic approach with all-white décor,” says Kathy. “The venues are so rich with history and colour, we didn’t want to overdo it.”
Magical Moment: “The speeches from our groomsmen and bridesmaids were personal, funny and emotional,” says Kathy. “All of us live in different countries, but after all these years we are still so close. Rob and I felt blessed.”
The Bride & Groom: Kathy was born in China and grew up in Shanghai and New York City, and Rob was born in Australia and grew up in Jakarta and Hong Kong. They worked for the same global financial company in different countries, but eventually met when they were both working in Hong Kong. “Because we had so many friends in common, we felt like we knew each other already,” she says. They soon started dating, and after a seven-year courtship, Rob proposed during a California vacation on Valentine’s Day.
The Bride Wore: Kathy chose a strapless, A-line Monique Lhuillier gown in ivory silk organza with ruching at the waistline. She accented this classic style with a cathedral-length veil studded with Swarovski crystals, gold Jimmy Choo shoes and custom diamond jewellery, a gift from her mother.
Exceptional Dining: “Our friends are still talking about the food from Chef Vito, especially the wide range of artisanal salumi at the cocktail reception before dinner,” says Kathy.
