When Rebecca Schley entered our “Pin Your Dream Wedding” contest, she wasn’t thinking that she would win. What was on her mind was a pink-and-gold colour pallete with hints of chandelier sparkle and Parisian charm. Needless to say, her luxe and love pins struck a chord with our judges. We catch up with her to get more details about her upcoming wedding and her lovely pins.

The Professional and Personal Mix
I think my design experience will make it easier for me to plan ahead and, hopefully, relax and enjoy this time. I’ve worked on so many wedding and special event invitations, so luckily I’m aware of a lot of wedding trends and the overall process. I’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with a lot of wedding planners and brides, so I’ve been exposed to many different styles and tastes. One thing I’ve learned as a designer is that there’s no shortage of digital inspiration these days, but it’s important to focus on a couple of key items you love instead of trying to cram every idea you come across into your wedding.
The Date
We’ve set the date for August 31, 2013. I started planning this April and came across the “Pin Your Dream Wedding” contest online when I was looking for wedding ideas.
The Fiancé
I met Turner about 5 years ago at one of those horrible parties where you realize you’re a single surrounded by couples. His friend was dating my friend, and they introduced us so we could seek solace in each other’s company. He asked for my number that night and I guess you could say the rest was history.
The Winnings
We’re so happy that we can use our Four Seasons Gift Card to have a honeymoon and continue to save for our first home. We wouldn’t have been able to do both.
The Venue
We’re getting married at a winery in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was the perfect wedding venue for us because one of our favourite pastimes is visiting wineries on the weekends. Turner actually popped the question during a weekend visit at Breaux Vineyards in Hillsboro, Virginia. We also envisioned an outdoor wedding, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are such a gorgeous backdrop.
The Style
I love the idea of contrasting touches of glamour with our draped rustic setting. Turner also likes mixing natural and modern elements, so that will add to the contrast as well. We want to have live music if we can, since we go to so many indie rock concerts here in DC. We’re thinking something off the beaten path.
The Honeymoon
We’re undecided. There are just so many lovely Four Seasons destinations. Right now, our favourites are: Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo and Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. There are also so many beautiful destinations in Europe; we’re torn.
