Complete your wedding-day look with the perfect shade of lipstick. Kimara Ahnert, a makeup artist in New York City, advises brides to wear a classic shade consistent with their everyday style, but also to take the time of year and their wedding dress, colour palette and flowers into consideration.

For brides getting married in the spring and summer months, Ahnert suggests choosing a lipstick with a pop of colour that’s fresh and bright, such as a pink or peachy champagne. “Stay away from typical nudes because you’re wearing white and you need to counterbalance that with a colour that brightens your face,” she says.

If your signature lipstick is darker, Ahnert recommends a berry to red shade, but in a sheerer gloss so it won’t read as heavy.

Suntanned summer brides need to take their darker skin tone into account. “Go a little brighter,” says Ahnert. “Instead of a nude pink, go with a bubblegum colour. If you want to wear a pale or nude shade, choose one with a more golden bronze tone.”

Our lipstick picks for spring and summer brides: For a bright pink, try Vibran-C Lip Treatment in Pink Grapefruit by Kimara Ahnert or Everlasting Liquid Love in Backstage Bambi by Kat Von D.

Obey by Illamasqua has a nice pop of colour for brides who want something a little brighter than their everyday nude lipstick.

If you want a bolder shade, we suggest Blossom by Kimara Ahnert or Atomic by Illamasqua.
