Video: Inside a Sydney Art Gallery

Sydney's contemporary art scene thrives in Surry Hills, and Ray Hughes Gallery is at the forefront.

So many things come to mind when we think of Sydney: the Opera House, the Harbour, the suntanned, surf-ready bodies topped with mops of blond hair. And as our Around the World journalists reported, the city is known for its unique shops and restaurants, as well as an enviable art scene.

During her trip Down Under, travel blogger Rachelle Lucas fell in love with Surry Hills. This art district is home to several contemporary galleries, many of which exhibit local and international artists. With camera in hand, Rachelle stopped into Ray Hughes Gallery for a tour of the collection and to learn more about the Surry Hills art scene. She also visited the Chalk Horse gallery, where she encountered Julian Meagher, a local artist hard at work on his upcoming exhibition.

Watch Rachelle’s video to see interviews with Evan Hughes, owner of Ray Hughes Gallery, and Sydney artist Julian Meagher.
