T.S. Eliot, renowned for poems such as The Waste Land and whose collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats was the inspiration for the Broadway musical Cats, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and his spirit lives large in Qiu Xiaolong, a Shanghai native who came to the city two decades ago.
