True escape sometimes calls for more than an exotic, luxurious trip far away from everyday life. If meaning is what’s missing from your travels, break away to Costa Rica to renew your spirit in ways that may enrich your life long after your visit. Guests at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo now have the opportunity to participate in Growing Together, an award-winning outreach program that helps improve local schools and the environment, as well as individual families and children in need.

“I like how excited our guests get when they assist within our local community,” says Luis Argote, general manager at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica. “The smiles on the faces of the children, teachers and guests make for an emotional scene. The gratitude of the local community toward our guests is heartfelt and makes you feel so good.”

With Growing Together, The Choice Is Yours

One reason the program works so well is because guests can tailor their civic experience based on their goals, budget and time.

  • Support a family or a child by giving much-needed school supplies, food, clothing and toys. (One family invites their adoptive family for a day at the Resort every time they visit Costa Rica.)
  • Be a Backpack Buddy. Fill a backpack with your favourite school supplies and bring it to the Resort. (So far, 217 backpacks have been donated.)
  • Donate your time to work at conservation areas, national parks and other important environments. Experiences include cleaning trails and beaches, harvesting seeds and more.

Schools Need Your Help

Elsa Bonilla, the community relations manager for Peninsula Papagayo, says one of the biggest needs is educational supplies of all kinds, including technology such as computers and printers. Projects at local schools have included painting, building a fence (to keep out menacing cows), planting a vegetable garden and providing soccer equipment.

“My favourite thing about partnering with Four Seasons is working with the guests. It’s wonderful to see their capacity to give and their desire to share with and learn from others,” says Bonilla. “They demonstrate sensitivity and a desire to make their vacation a human experience and a memory to last a lifetime.”

Where Do I Sign Up?
