From sunny Lana‘i in the Hawaiian Islands to the powdery slopes of Jackson Hole, discover our editor’s picks for winter getaways—and share your favourite Four Seasons destinations for cold weather escapes.

  • Jackson Hole is famous for its steep mountain terrain and thick powder snow. Schedule a lesson at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, or head out on a dogsled or snowmobile tour and explore the backcountry. For the ultimate skiing adventure, check out the heli-skiing, where a helicopter takes you to any of the five surrounding mountain ranges for an unforgettable day.
  • Nothing follows a day on the slopes quite like a relaxing evening by the fire. All of the lodge-style rooms at the Resort in Jackson Hole are arranged around a gas-burning fireplace, an essential creature comfort of any mountain retreat.
  • The azure waters of the Indian Ocean shine brilliantly in the island sun. You can explore the lush coast of the Seychelles by kayak, catamaran, paddleboat and more—a slew of water and land-based activities can be arranged within a short distance from Four Seasons.
  • Whether your villa is perched on the jungle hillside or near the beach surrounded by greenery, a hardwood deck surrounds your accommodations at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles. The serenity of a late-morning breakfast is made even sweeter with the ocean view.
  • Surfing was once reserved for Hawaiian chiefs, but now this sport is practised all over Hawaii and the world. Lana‘i resident and champion surfer Nick Palumbo teaches beginners and experienced surfers alike at Four Seasons Resort Lana‘i at Manele Bay. So grab a board and hit the waves!
  • Kaiolohia Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, may not be the place to have a swim, but the eight-mile (13-kilometre) spread of exotic shoreline is ideal for sunbathing or beachcombing, and the picturesque setting creates a one-of-a-kind picnic experience on Lana‘i. Have the Resort prepare a basket for any impromptu beach adventures.
  • Tucked away within the central highlands of the island, The Lodge at Koele is an entirely different way to experience Lana‘i. Challenge your friends to a leisurely game of croquet (British or American) on one of the three lawns, or test your aim at the sporting clay course and archery range.
  • Explore hidden valleys and wooded trails, coupled with wonderful views of the neighbouring islands. The Stables at Koele house an expert staff and gentle horses ready to take you for a ride around Lana‘i unlike any other. You may even spot some wildlife.
  • A five-course meal on a canopy bed on the beach is made even more unique amidst candlelight, live jazz music and an art installation set against Bali’s Jimbaran Bay. These beds are situated right in front of PJ’s at Four Seasons, where the atmosphere is casual and inviting.
  • Bali is filled with a rich, cultural background, and with almost 20,000 temples on the island, there are many beautiful traditions to experience. You might even come across a woman carrying an arrangement of fruit—called a gebogan—on her head as she makes her way to a temple. If you’re looking for some guidance in your planning, the staff at Four Seasons is ready to help.
  • Relax poolside at the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village and take in the refreshing California air. Furnished with a flat-screen TV, lounge chairs and a bar, enjoy a rejuvenating massage in a private cabana and then take a dip in the nearby heated pool.
  • Halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village is a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Blending Eastern and Western traditions, holistic treatments can be experienced in one of the private treatment rooms, or relax in a mosaic-tiled whirlpool.
  • Just minutes from downtown Dallas lies a sprawling oasis surrounded by acres and acres of rolling hills. Indulge yourself at the Spa & Salon at Four Seasons with pampering treatments designed to ease your body and your mind. The European-style lounge and treatment rooms are sleek and well-equipped.
  • TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas was redesigned last year with a whole new layout that’s challenging enough for the pros—it is, in fact home to the HP Byron Nelson Championship—and inviting and fun for amateurs alike. Full-service locker rooms are available nearby in the adjacent Spa, where you can head to unwind after a full day on the links.
  • Secluded paradise awaits any visitor to the enchanting island of Landaa Giraavaru in the Republic of Maldives. The Ayurvedic Retreat located within the spa complex at Four Seasons is designed to familiarise guests with the physical, nutritional and emotional benefits of the ayurvedic system, a “science of life” that is native to India.
  • Two therapists working in perfect coordination are essential for Elakkizhi, an ayurvedic treatment that involves cooking herbal powders, spices and a variety of medicinal leaves in herbal oils and then packing them into bundles that will eventually be applied to the skin. Four Seasons has worked with experts from India and Sri Lanka to bring this and many other traditional ayurvedic rituals to Landaa Giraavaru.

  1. Lora Aller says:

While there is never a less than stellar Four Seasons Resort I do have favorites: Hualalai-Kona, Wailea- Maul, and Whistler! Why- personally familiar with the values and ethics of the resorts- deep love of all. One cannot do better. The slopes are up for grabs this winter and all the grandeur is there! Hualalai- my old home town and the best spa in North America. Well- maybe Maui- I tend to gravitate to the Kona wildness but Maui remains totally stunning.

  2. Lisa Emmett says:

The Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is by far a top winter destination for our family. The first class hospitality, the delicious food, and the breathtaking views are unbeatable. My favorite activity is lunch at Ferraro’s overlooking Wailea Bay with a chilled glass of wine (or 2 or 3!) A must for everyone of all ages and tastes.
