Ah, the chill of the crisp mountain air, the swish of skis over fresh powder, the taste of victory upon mastering the art of moguls . . . yes, skiing in Whistler can be an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, muscle aches and pains and feet numb from cold sometimes make their own lasting impressions.

Luckily, guests can now alleviate the potential after-effects of skiing with the new On the Podium Après Alpine Treatment in The Spa at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler. Created with the assistance of former Olympian Allison Forsyth and endorsed by Britt Janyk of the 2010 Canadian Alpine Women’s Ski Team, the 110-minute body treatment is specially designed to rejuvenate tired muscles and help skiers and snowboarders recover after a day on the mountain.

“We couldn’t think of anyone better to help us create this treatment than Allison since she’s very familiar with pushing her body to its physical limits on the slopes,” says Spa Director Mary Kate Piotrowski. “She gave us a lot of useful input, and we’re really pleased with the final result. It’s the perfect mix between an invigorating sports massage and a relaxing spa treatment.”

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, glaciers and alpine meadows, Spa guests begin to feel the full-body benefits as soon as they arrive. Tension literally melts away in The Spa’s comfortable waiting lounge, equipped with an array of magazines and plasma screen televisions depicting peaceful scenes accompanied by soothing music.

In the On the Podium treatment, which takes place in one of The Spa’s 14 elegant yet cozy treatment rooms, an experienced therapist begins by gently massaging the back with hot smooth stones to soothe tired muscles. Next, feet receive a peppermint lotion massage and are wrapped in warm moist towels to restore circulation. Throughout, a combination of stretching and deep-tissue massage techniques rejuvenates muscles, preparing the body for another action-packed day on the slopes.

“The massage is fantastic,” said Janyk, after receiving the treatment for herself in Fall 2009. “I feel like I have a new set of feet!”

In addition to a new sense of well-being, guests leave with a personal souvenir of their On the Podium experience: a chocolate gold medal emblazoned with the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler logo. Relaxing, pampering, a rejuvenating massage and chocolate . . . who wouldn’t leave feeling like gold?
