Top Spots for Shopping in Singapore
From gourmet chocolate to fashion-forward attire, here are four unique boutiques in the Lion City to inspire the spender in you.
01–30 Millenia Walk, 9 Raffles Boulevard; 65/6338-5191
02-10 Wheelock Place, 501 Orchard Road; 65/6235-8595
#B1-49 Raffles City, 252 North Bridge Road; 65 6333 5328
As the name suggests, the people at Chocolate Research Facility really know their chocolate. And they sell more than 100 different flavours of cocoa from a white-and-brown-clad, slightly sterile space that looks like a research lab in the Millenia Walk Mall. The bars range from the traditional (dark, milk, white, almond, walnut and pecan), to the innovative (red bean, Sichuan pepper and lychee martini made with real alcohol), to the, well, interesting (durian in milk chocolate). Let’s just say some flavours are an acquired taste. The Wheelock Place location is just a five-minute walk from Four Seasons Hotel Singapore.

23 Keong Saik Rd.; 65/6323-1368
Cushions in cheery, mismatched prints, patchwork-esque bags, stylish floral dresses for little girls, tablet cloth covers, and runners and placements in Asian-inspired prints are the business of Rose Citron, a breezy boutique in the heart of Chinatown. Pick a colourful clutch to jazz up any little black dress. Or throw one of the busy pillows on a monochromatic sofa. It’s all undeniably flirty, girly, and fun. We especially love the large cloth totes, which are perfect for carry-on.

5 Jalan Kilang; 65/6366-4642
Half the fun of 28th Février is just figuring out what exactly it is. Opened by acclaimed photographer Dominic Khoo, the white on white space could be a gallery, thanks to the black-and-white photos decorating it. But finely cut jackets by local couturier Kevin Seah, polished loafers displayed on corrugated cardboard shelves, and glasses by Nackymade push the space more in the boutique direction. Whatever definition you choose to give it, don’t get too comfortable with it—things here tend to change in the blink of an eye.

B1-36 Hong Leong Building, 16 Raffles Quay; 65/6223-4804
Lawyer-turned-designer Priscilla Shunmugam sells her line of fashion-forward pieces inspired by traditional Asian dress from her atelier Ong Shunmugam, which is located in a Raffles Quay skyscraper. Many pieces integrate traditional weaving and printing techniques that are practiced across the continent. You might find a batik print cut into a sleek architectural dress or slim pencil skirt. Shunmugam also has a line of dresses that give a modern take on the cheongsam, the tight-fitting Chinese dress that was popularized in Shanghai during the 1920s.
