Updated June 13, 2012—On Monday, June 11, @FourSeasons hosted another instalment of its popular #bestofcity chats on Twitter, this time featuring Concierge Preston Rooks from Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore, opened just last year. During the chat, Preston answered questions about dining, shopping, nightlife and the best places to enjoy the Star-Spangled Sailabration. Here are some of his top picks:

Tips for Enjoying the Star-Spangled Sailabration

Preston’s favourite “don’t-miss” events during the Sailabration: Tours of any tall ships and naval vessels—and be sure to see the air shows on Saturday and Sunday.

Preston’s favourite Sailabration event: The air shows! The Blue Angels won’t be visible from the Inner Harbor, but there will be JumboTrons to view it from there. They start practicing on Friday.

Preston’s favourite way to learn about the history of “The Star-Spangled Banner”: Maryland Historical Society has the original manuscript of “The Star-Spangled Banner” itself (near Mount Vernon), while the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House (near the Hotel and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum) has the original flag that inspired the song.

Preston’s favourite way to get to the various events: Use the free Charm City Circulator buses and the Baltimore Water Taxi (to get across the harbour). They have a new route that goes down to Federal Hill and Fort McHenry.

Preston’s favourite tip for first-timers: Don’t try to plan too much in one day. Meaning, don’t try to tour a ship and go to the air show on the same day. Ensure you are spending enough time at each activity so you can really enjoy the attraction and take it all in. There is a festival village as well, with food and more, that you’ll want to explore.

Preston’s favourite tip for those trying to avoid the crowds: Stay outside of the city! It is taking over the whole city itself.

Preston’s favourite way to get ready for a day in Baltimore during Sailabration: Start off with comfortable walking shoes. Be prepared to walk around the harbour and Fells Point to tour the various ships, and also be prepared to wait in line.

Food, Drinks and Nightlife

Preston’s favourite “must-try” local dish you won’t find anywhere else: Crab cakes—they’re made everywhere. Try Faidley Seafood in Lexington Market.

Preston’s favourite local celebrity chef (and her restaurant): Cindy Wolf of Foreman Wolf Restaurants (Charleston, Cinghale, Pazo, Petit Louis). They run a number of local restaurants, including three in Harbor East.

Preston’s favourite romantic restaurant in the city: Definitely The Black Olive at The Inn at Black Olive.

Preston’s favourite restaurant only locals know about: B Bistro for its Mediterranean-influenced fare.

Preston’s favourite unique dining experience: Mr. Rain’s Fun House, located inside The American Visionary Art Museum, has a great covered outdoor patio. Also try The Prime Rib.

Preston’s favourite place to dine solo: Head to the new Townhouse Kitchen + Bar in Harbor East.

Preston’s favourite place for pizza: Joe Squared, located in Power Plant Live! in Inner Harbor.

Preston’s favourite place for a burger: Definitely The Abbey Burger Bistro. They have over 15 burgers, including the “Peanut Butter Burger.”
