Editor Obsession: Past Era’s Antique Jewellery
We’re in love with Past Era’s collection of statement-making antiques, including this striking Victorian necklace.
This week I’m obsessed with antique jeweller Past Era, known worldwide for an extraordinary collection that features historically significant pieces from the 17th through 20th centuries.
In particular, the piece I’m drooling over is an early Victorian 10-carat gold, sterling silver and diamond necklace, circa 1840, recently acquired by the shop. Reflective of early Victorian style and the period that includes Queen Victoria’s wedding, the piece is romantic and delicate. The necklace is crafted and set in gold, then topped with sterling—white metal was the desired finish, but white gold had yet to be created, and platinum was not yet used for jewellery production.
Marion Glober, owner of Past Era, is the daughter of London jewellers and shares her parents’ passion for antique jewellery. After 20 years of business in Honolulu, Hawaii, Glober relocated Past Era to Houston, Texas, in 1993. If you’re in the Houston area, visit the brick and mortar shop. If not, admire and browse the website offerings.
