Editor Obsession: Flirty Silhouettes From Rolando Santana
Santana’s convertible coat and ombré tweed dress are Spring/Summer standouts.
I’m still daydreaming about Rolando Santana’s Spring/Summer 2013 runway presentation, which I caught during New York Fashion Week. Inspired by the serenity and strength of the sea, the collection is composed of strong, simple silhouettes with flirty, feminine details.
Two pieces I can’t stop thinking about:
I truly love a convertible coat/jacket, and for this collection, Santana designed a pure white beltless trench coat in lightweight jacquard. The skirt portion of the coat unzips, thereby creating a sexy cropped jacket. When complete, the hemline is high-low, shorter in front than it is in back, flirtatiously accentuating the hips.
Another particularly beautiful and innovative piece was the ombré tweed dress in blue and white. It’s available in different styles, but my favourite incarnation of the dress shares the same full skirt silhouette as the convertible trench and has an attractive racer back.
