Editor Obsession: Into the Blue
From the New York runways to the Paris Biennale, we’re feeling blue . . . and loving it. Case in point: Carolina Herrera.
Blue is the hue on the runways this fall. Royal, azure and teal—bold and bright—figure prominently in the fashions and accessories that bear out the Baroque aesthetic of the season’s fashions. Fashion week in New York was a blur of blue. Oscar de la Renta showed a slew of blues, as did Marchesa, Jenny Packham and Carolina Herrera, whose blue hues spanned the spectrum from navy and royal for daywear to a sublime evening number in “Wallis blue” (translation: robin’s egg) with black and ivory embroidery.
Days later, I encountered the colour in full force at the Paris Biennale, where jewellers like Bulgari, Chaumet, Dior and Piaget showed piece after piece incorporating shades from the deepest lapis to fiery opals reminiscent of the bluest summer sky. The nice thing about blue is it’s a colour worn well by most of us, and it can be easily accessorised with black, brown or grey—neutrals most women have on hand as basics.
