With two National Parks and the National Elk Refuge as neighbours, this old cowboy town offers some of North America’s richest wildlife viewing. The Teton Range draws nature enthusiasts with an abundance of recreational opportunities, from whitewater rafting and hiking to views of the nation’s most iconic peaks. But there is another, more cerebral side to Jackson Hole, enlivened by the influx of upscale second-home owners: the bustling art scene. With the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s thousands of paintings, sculptures and photographs, the $35 million Jackson Hole Center for the Arts, and more than 30 art galleries, Jackson Hole has become a popular art market. At the base of the ski resort 15 miles (24 kilometres) from town, Teton Village focuses on summer sports and cultural activities, including the seven-week Grand Teton Classical Music Festival.
