We asked our concierge team at Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara, North San Diego, to gather the savviest sight-seeing suggestions they could find—not just their own, but also those of other local connoisseurs they work with every day. From whale watching to birdie hunting on the scenic Arnold Palmer–designed golf course, numerous activities can lift the spirit at Aviara, perched atop a bluff overlooking the Pacific.

Golfer’s Paradise

Twelve months of perfect San Diego weather allow for ample opportunity to tee off at the Arnold Palmer–designed course at the Aviara Golf Club, just steps from the Four Seasons Residence Club. Whether you are a golf pro or new to the sport, the on-site Aviara Golf Academy and TaylorMade Performance Lab provide players of all levels the chance to improve their game.

Power Shopping

For some potent retail therapy, go directly to the Cedros Avenue Design District in Solana Beach, where in two and a half blocks more than 85 shops purvey highly original apparel, home furnishings, and decorative treasures large and small. With all the charm of a European side street, this leafy enclave is the hippest shopping destination in North San Diego. Soak up the District’s vibrant flavour with a leisurely stroll through Leaping Lotus, a spectacular bazaar featuring more than 120 merchants and artisans.

Coastal Gem

Considered by many the crown jewel of Southern California beaches, La Jolla—an intimate beach haven 25 minutes south of the Residence Club—offers calm, gin-clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The panorama of serpentine shoreline and rugged cliffs is worth at least one roll of film—it’s often cited as the most photographed beach in San Diego. Free entertainment is provided by a teeming colony of frolicsome harbour seals.

Surf’s Up!

Take a two-hour surfing lesson from a private surf coach, who’ll make your first time on the waves fun and safe while also teaching proper surfer lingo. Visit Moonlight Beach, where families can rent surfboards or boogie boards, and hang ten, dude!
