On February 6, Four Seasons hosted another #bestofcity Twitter chat featuring Concierge Matt Wilson from Four Seasons Resort Vail. During the chat, Wilson answered questions about dining, shopping, skiing, spa treatments and more. In case you missed it, here are his top picks and recommendations for making the most of your trip to Vail, Colorado:

Matt’s favourite snowboarding runs: My favourite run starts at top of Avanti Express Lift and ends at Gondola bottom. Really gets your heart pumping! The best runs for intermediate snowboarders are Sourdough Express and Avanti Express. Happy trails!

Matt’s favourite runs for novice skiers: The best runs for novice skiers are Golden Peak and Eagle’s Nest. Our ski rentals are through Gorsuch, a premier outfitter. And, Vail has over 1,500 instructors for every level! Agents will pair you with the most appropriate instructor possible.

Matt’s favourite places for Nordic skiing: Vail Nordic Center has great track skiing. TrailWise Guides and Paragon Guides also have great backcountry trips.

Matt’s favourite tips for families: We have a fun Sugar Shack and the Epic Teen Après Ski program. And you can drop off your kids at Kids For All Seasons and head straight to the slopes!

Matt’s favourite non-ski season activities: The activities are limitless for outdoor lovers! Fly fishing, horseback riding, white-water rafting, hiking…

Matt’s favourite signature spa treatments: Our “ski therapy” includes Skiers Massage for sore muscle relief, while High-Altitude Adjustment aids your body’s equilibrium. We also have a new Sound Scentsation Massage that stimulates the senses on numerous levels!

Matt’s favourite restaurant picks: Our own Flame has the best steak in the village. Try Sweet Basil and La Tour, too!

Matt’s favourite winter cocktails: Check out our new 100-mile cocktail “As the Crow Flies.” Be sure to try our Haut Chocolate with a whipped-cream topping, or our Key Lime Martini with a meringue topping and graham cracker rim.

Matt’s favourite shopping destinations: Try The Golden Bear for jewellery, Kemo Sabe for cowboy boots, Eclectic Galleries for art and Gorsuch for alpine apparel.

Matt’s favourite shopping tip: You’ll find the best shopping in Vail Village—and all on heated sidewalks!

Matt’s favourite day trip to Denver: If you’re spending a day in Denver, I recommend a great Italian restaurant called Osteria Marco for pasta. Speaking of pasta, did you know it’s great for helping your body acclimate to the altitude for a day on the slopes? Win!

For getting to the area, Eagle Airport is 38 miles from Vail, but most international flights come through Denver International Airport. Wilson also recommends that guests watch for last-minute flight specials out of Vail’s Eagle Airport through Fly Vail.

Vail is enormous. With its countless cliff bands, incredible tree skiing and numerous cornices, you’ll find plenty to do outdoors. And for when you feel like kicking back at the Resort, we serve warm brownies beside our heated pool—and we have heated robes and heated towels, too!
