I went to Montreal with friends to watch the Formula 1 race. For some strange reason, I knew something was going to happen on this trip that would forever change my life.

One evening in Montreal, a friend made dinner reservations for a group of us at The Med. I ended up sitting across from Francesco, and still remember how he ordered carpaccio for his antipasto. When it arrived, he looked at me and asked if I knew what it was. With a laugh, I said “Yes!” He soon asked me if I wanted to try some and I thought to myself, “This guy is so nice and thoughtful.” We really hit it off, talking about everything imaginable. I mentioned that I would be leaving for Italy in a week’s time, and he told me he was leaving a month later. The night ended and I guess you could say we left things in the hands of fate.

When I returned from Italy, a friend invited me to a party. Little did I know, that I would see Francesco again. We talked all night, and he finally asked for my number. Francesco left for Europe the day after the party, but called me the day he returned from his vacation. He told me all about his adventures, and our first phone conversation felt as if I’ve known him for years.

I remember hearing the excitement in his voice when he asked me if I wanted to go to a U2 concert. That was our first official date: dinner and a concert. That night, I realized I wanted to stay by Francesco’s side and get to know him better. Like a moth to a flame, I was completely drawn to him, his laugh and his smile. From the time we met, our relationship has continued to grow and deepen. We have been through many ups-and-downs, but have stood firmly by each other’s side. I could not ask for a better man.
