“Wines with Soul Uncorked.” This charming sentiment was the 2008 motto of the Portland Indie Wine Festival, but it could also be a perfect, if somewhat whimsical, metaphor for the buzz and excitement that pervades the wine industry of the entire Pacific Northwest—Washington as well as Oregon.
These are cerebral wines with depth and complexity, wines you graduate to as your palate begins to appreciate subtle nuances instead of simple sex appeal. So, here are impressions from a recent and very exciting trip through the region.
